The latest hearing of a high profile divorce case involving Nick Robertson, millionaire and founder of online fashion retailer Asos; and his wife Janine, came to a close with the judge ruling that Mrs Robertson be awarded an additional £40 million as part of the financial settlement.
The couple, who married in 2004, had two children before they separated in 2013. Mr Robertson founded his company in 2000 and over the next 13 years, helped it to grow so that by the time of the divorce, it had almost 10 million customers. Mrs Robertson came from a more meagre background the court heard, although prior to marriage, both contributed equally to the household. After they were married however, Mrs Robertson was happy to be a stay at home mother whilst her husband provided most of the income from his business, shares and investments.
The family enjoyed a luxurious lifestyle, owning several homes, top of the range cars and boats. However, it seems that money did not buy happiness, with the couple agreeing to separate and subsequently divorce.
A lengthy legal battle ensued, with the principal cause of dispute being how to divide both shares and property, from Mr Robertson’s £220 million fortune. Initially, his ex-wife requested around £110 million, which Mr Robertson rejected, offering £30 million instead.
According to The Telegraph, the case was passed to the Family Division of the High Court earlier this month and was attended by Mr Robertson, but not his ex-wife. During the hearing, the judge, Mr Justice Holman, ruled that Mrs Robertson should in fact receive around £70 million.
Last year, it was reported that Mr Robertson had moved in with his PA and had stepped down as chief executive of Asos. At the time of his separation, it was reported that he was the 298th richest man in Britain.
